Something Old, New, Borrowed & Blue

For us, the 1960s was the decade when guitar design was at its most inventive. Teisco Del Rey was leading the way with their unique styling and pickup configurations that even by today’s standards still look radical and cool. One iconic Blues guitarist who played Teisco Del Rey guitars was the illustrious Mr “Hound Dog” Taylor.

Famous for his slide guitar playing and raucous boogie beats, Taylor could be found playing the clubs in and around Chicago during the 1960s and early ‘70s. His sound was unique and was, in part, due to his Teisco Del Rey guitars he bought and played. In respect to the company and their famous customer, Simon has created a retro-vintage interpretation based upon the Apollo SS-4L. He has taken the original design and stripped it back to the bone before adding Mainstream Americana highlights! He’s drawn the guitar with humbuckers but she could easily be driven by P-90, single coil, Filertron or Gold Foil pickups. If any manufacturer is reading this page and thinking about producing something different, “The Hound Dog”, could be the guitar you have been looking for. BR
